چکیده

INTRODUCTION: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV) are herpesviruses, which account for the majority of oral viral infections. Herpes simplex virus, varicellazoster virus, and Epstein-Barr virus infections nearly always result from reactivation of latent virus, while cytomegalovirus infections, besides presenting as reactivated disease, are almost as likely to present as a primary infection in susceptible hosts [1]. Herpesviruses are common in persons infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) [2]. The diseases or medical treatments that have cytostatic or cytotoxic effects also increase the risk of viral infections [1]. The general characteristic of CMV and EBV is presented in tabl. 1.

Demonstration of Herpes Simplex Virus, Cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr Virus in Colorectal Cancer

Background: The present study sought to investigate molecular evidence for association between the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in CRC and colorectal polyp by using the PCR method in Iran. Methods: In this analytical case-control study, we selected 15 patients with CRC, 20 patients with colorectal polyp, and 35 patients without mali...

Interferon Alfa-2b Therapy in Mucocutaneous Manifestations of Behçet’s Disease

Background: Viral infections such as Epstein-Barr virus and Herpes simplex virus may play a role in the pathogenesis of Behçet’s disease (BD). Interferons (INF) are natural defense mechanisms against viruses and inhibit their activities by enhancing major histocompatibility complex class I and cytokine expression. This study evaluated the efficacy of INF-α-2b on mucocutaneous lesions of BD. Met...

Infections caused by herpes viruses other than cytomegalovirus in solid organ transplant recipients.

Despite great advances in solid organ transplantation (SOT) in recent decades, infection remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality among SOT recipients. Members of the herpesvirus family are the most common viral pathogens causing disease in this patient population. Herpes viruses are large enveloped DNA viruses that commonly reactivate during periods of severe immunosuppression. Current...

Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, and other viral infections in children after liver transplantation.

We studied 51 consecutive pediatric patients for the frequency and morbidity of viral infections after liver transplantation. The incidence of primary (67%) and reactivation (48%) Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections and reactivation (88%) cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection was comparable to that seen in adult transplant recipients. However, fewer pediatric than adult transplant recipients experien...
